Spring is finally here!

Well the spring has been a little slow with the cold weather and all the snow left over from winter. The steelhead fishing got going earlier in the month once the streams started warming up. There is still snow on some of the pass roads so access is limited in a few areas. We have had regular rain showers which have kept the water levels good for Steelhead fishing. The Dolly Varden and Cutthroat Trout fishing has been good as well. The Cutthroat fishing will be getting even better as the water warms and the bugs start hatching. We start Saltwater fishing in June and we look forward to a great season. The local salmon derby's started this weekend and are always a lot of fun. I saw a nice 31 pound king brought to the dock today but he didn't get his King Salmon Derby ticket so he couldn't enter his fish. Too bad..... We have also had the crab pots in so we have eaten a few other those as well.

When the sun comes out things really warm up. We have highs up into the mid 60's on some days and that is warm for this time of year. The plants have been sprouting out and the grass has grown a lot in the last week. With those warmer days the bears have been moving and feeding on the shorelines and grass flats. The more the grass grows the more bears we see. The guys that have been staying at the lodge this week got two bears the other day so they are extremely happy. They are a great group of guys and are a lot of fun. They put in their time and deserve the bears they have so far. Two other groups arrived two days ago and are doing quite well. Each group got a bear on their first day hunting and they have seen several bears a day so far. With as much sign as we have been seeing they will definitely get more chances. This week Spring has really been ramping up.

We don't have any saltwater clients yet so we went out in the big boat yesterday on a scouting trip to catch a few fish. We hooked a few halibut and landed one nice 45 pound fish. We also saw whales, porpoises, orcas and black bears on the shoreline. Not a bad day on the water.

The next two weeks should be great. We'll keep you updated.
