Saltwater Fishing
We fish the calm waters of the inside passage on the east side of Prince of Wales Island. Fishing on our 28 foot cruiser is comfortable and the cabin is large enough for everyone to seek shelter when it rains. We use twin motors for added security when we are out on the water. The shallow depths at which the fish feed make for a uniquely pleasant fishing experience. We fish water from 120 to 300 feet. Saltwater fishing is a lot of fun and the variety of fish available is incredible. Your next strike may be a 20 pound Ling Cod or a 150 pound Halibut.
On the Saltwater the average temperature can vary from 45 to 65 degrees. Precipitation is possible during your stay on the island regardless of your time of year. Rain gear, warm clothing, and waterproof boots are recommended. When you book a Saltwater Package with us you get the boat exclusively for you and your group. You don't have to share the boat with anyone you don't know. That way you can decide what you want to fish for and how long you stay out. The inside passage is a beautiful area so don't forget your camera. While you are out on the water you may see whales, orcas, eagles, and seals or sea lions.
Mid June: King (Chinook) Salmon, Halibut, Rockfish
The King Salmon move into the waters around Prince of Wales Island and that is where we target them. Halibut fishing is getting good and it is almost easier to target them this time of year because of where they are feed. Temperatures are in the mid 50's to low 60's.
July: Coho (Silver) Salmon, King (Chinook)Salmon, Pink (Humpy) Salmon, Chum (Dog) Salmon, Halibut, Rockfish
King salmon are available through mid month. Fishing for Pink Salmon and Coho Salmon is picking up and the waters of the inside passage teem with life. Fishing for Halibut and Rockfish is good and there is no telling what you might catch down there.
August: Coho (Silver) Salmon, Pink (Humpy) Salmon, Halibut, Rockfish
This is a great time for Coho Salmon. This is the time of your you will find large schools of salmon and you can expect multiple hook ups. Halibut fishing is great is peaking during this month. We also catch some King Salmon during this time of year.
We are proud to be working with Silverthorn Charters to bring you the best saltwater experience available in Southeast Alaska.
