Spring Bear Hunting and Halibut/Salmon Fishing
This week worked out great for our guests. The halibut are biting and the bears are coming into calls. It's a great time of year on Prince of Wales Island. Once again our guest were able to harvest several more nice bears. Below are pictures of bears that Donnie, Rodney and Bryce's took this week.
We also established a new lodge record with the monster bear below. This bear measured in at over 7 foot and had a skull that was 21 9/16 inches (green). With average skrink from drying it will make Boone and Crockett record book by over 1 1/4 inches. I don't have any picture of it on the ground so far just this picture taken at the lodge. Hopefully they will send me more pictures that I can post for you soon.
This week has continued to be warm and sunny. With the nice weather we have been having some of our guests have taken a break from bear hunting to go out on the charter boat to catch some halibut. A halibut like the ones pictured below will provide plenty of meat for the freezer.
While they were out on the saltwater I went fishing on the rivers to catch some of the beautiful trout that few people take the time to pursue. Everyone knows the island has lots of big black bears and halibut fishing in the waters surrounding the island is great. Very few people realize that we have a world class native trout fishery here as well. Trout fishing for Rainbow and Coastal Cutthroat trout is very good right now.
