Spring Bear Hunting
This week our hunters arrived with high hopes for a good hunt. They had a fun crew with some great guys that were a lot of fun. The weather turned really warm with highs over 80 degrees almost all week so they had to adjust to the warmer weather.
One of our groups went out and on the first logging road they drove up and found a bear in a clear cut. They harvested him with one shot and brought him back to the lodge. They made it look easy. A gentleman named Bryce is with that group and he is archery hunting. Bryce was able to call a bear in to about 20 yards. He ranged a log near the bear at 30 yards but didn't calculate the distance the had travelled past the log as he got closer. Maybe that's because the bear stood up and nerves took over. Once the bear got back on all four legs and turne broadside he shot. He watched as the arrow flew over the bear's back and slammed into the log that he ranged at 30 yards. Drawing a bow on a bear is a little different than drawing on a deer or elk. The elk won't turn and charge you. That's what makes bear hunting so much fun.
The fishing on the rivers is real good right now and hardly anyone is fishing. There are still steelhead available but they are getting darker. I took a client fishing on monday and she did very well. She hooked two steelhead and landed one. Later in the day she hooked some beautiful cutthroat trout and dolly varden. It was a good day of fishing especially for how warm the weather has been.
