Season Updates

Saltwater Fishing, River Fishing
August has definitely been a good month for us. The Halibut are biting well and there are big fish opportunities almost every day. We have had some great guests at our lodge recently. Ed Tomka and his group were an absolute pleasure to have as our guests. They are pictured below with the good catch of Coho Salmon. We also had Roger Newton who came up this spring and returned with a few friends to try the saltwater fishing out. I only have the photo of them land a fish on the boat below.
Then we had Greg Vidmar bring his wife and two daughters up for a family vacation. Prince of Wales Island is a great place for a family to spend a vacation. There are so many things that you can do. They spent time exploring the beaches at low tide. They fished the saltwater and later the rivers. They even got to go do a little deer hunting as well.
Every year is different but it seems this year the fishing is just the way it should be. The weather has definitely been cooler and wetter this summer. That has made for some great river fishing. The Coho Salmon are running strong and there are some lunker fish this year. We regularly drive out to the river to catch a Coho Salmon for dinner. We haven't come back without one yet.
Hunting for deer has been open for two weeks and the big bucks are still up high. Most of the deer I have rubbed their velvet off now and they are starting to spar. This year there have definitely been more deer around though scattered out in the hills. September should be a good month for getting some big bucks.
Black Bear hunting opens on September 1st and we have a full lodge almost all month. We have been seeing bears out in the clear cuts eating berries. There are plenty of salmon in the streams but they will eat berries if they can. This year so far they still have that option. I will let you know how they do. Hopefully I will have some pictures to show you. Now I have to decide whether I should go hunting today or fishing........
